Why do I need this?

This two-day First Aid at Work course is designed for those who currently hold a First Aid at Work qualification and which is due to expire.

What should I know first?

A First Aider can renew their First Aid at Work qualification by attending a two-day requalification course if it’s within 1 month past the expiry date. If the First Aider has lapsed by more than 1 month, but no longer than 3 months, the First Aider can requalify by attending a 2-day course in cases if special circumstances apply. Please discuss this with us further. If the First Aider has lapsed beyond 3 months they must attend a full 3-day First Aid at Work course. The important thing to remember is that as soon as the certificate expires, the individual is no longer considered competent to act as a First Aider in the workplace. Therefore, it is advisable to arrange the First Aid at Work Requalification before it expires.

What will I learn?

You will refresh your knowledge and the practical competence required to deal with a range of workplace first aid situations.

A range of subjects covered include:

  • Legalities, responsibilities and reporting
  • Heart attacks
  • Dealing with an unresponsive casualty
  • Eye injuries
  • Fractures and spinal injuries
  • Choking
  • Control of bleeding
  • Chest injuries
  • Assessment of the situation
  • Diabetes
  • Shock (including Anaphylaxis)
  • Asthma
  • Head injuries
  • Poisoning
  • Sprains and strains
  • Stroke
  • Burns
  • Epilepsy
  • Resuscitation
  • Bandaging

Course is suited to:

The qualification is available to learners aged 14 or over but a learner is unable to act as a First Aider in the workplace until they reach the age of 16.

Due to the practical nature of the first aid assessment there are physical demands and learners must be able to demonstrate their skills as in a real-life situation. An example of this would be to demonstrate CPR on a mannequin at floor level.

It is recommended that learners should hold a minimum of Level 1 in literacy or equivalent to undertake this qualification.

It may be possible to allocate a reasonable adjustment to a learner who has a disability, medical condition or learning needs. Please get in touch to discuss further.

Length of course:

Course is conducted over two days.

Successful qualification on this course is based on practical assessments conducted throughout the course and written test papers each day.

A three year Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (Level 6 in Scotland) will be issued to the learner, subject to successful assessment. No external assessors are required.

This re-qualification meets the requirements of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 and the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1982.
