Why do I need this?
This course has been developed for those who are working with children and infants. It will be of particular interest to teachers, child minders, foster carers, crèche assistants, playgroup personnel and anyone else who has a responsibility for the welfare of children whilst in your care.
It is ideal for individuals who are responsible for children and infants, who wish to gain a nationally accredited Level 3 Award.
What will I learn?
You will gain knowledge and practical competence required to deal with a range of Paediatric First Aid situations.
This two-day course also satisfies the guidelines and criteria as laid down by the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and Ofsted. In order to obtain this qualification, you must attend both days and complete the two units of accreditation.
A range of subjects are covered including:
- Responsibilities and reporting
- Assessment of the situation
- Dealing with an unresponsive casualty
- Head injuries
- Infantile convulsions
- Foreign bodies
- Control of bleeding
- Eye injuries
- Heat and Cold
- Sickle cell anaemia
The qualification is assessed through practical demonstration and oral questioning. Scenarios will be set to enable a learner to demonstrate their knowledge and practical skills.
During the practical assessment, the learner will be asked supporting questions by the Trainer/Assessor. The practical assessment is ongoing throughout the course but the Trainer/Assessor will make learners aware of when they are being assessed.

The qualification is designed for learners with a responsibility for the care of children and babies on a professional level. The qualification is available to learners aged 16 and over.
Length of Course :
Course is conducted over two days.
A learner must successfully pass both the written and practical assessments to achieve the qualification. There is no grading of the assessment, learners pass or are referred. The qualification awarded is the FAA Level 3 Award Paediatric First Aid, which is valid for three years from the date of the achievement and satisfies EYFS criteria.
This qualification is regulated in the UK and awarded by First Aid Awards. FAA are an Awarding Organisation regulated by Ofqual in England, and Qualifications Wales in Wales.
