Why do I need this?

A cardiac arrest can happen to anyone, at any time. The risk of death can be reduced if you have a defibrillator close by and, more importantly, you know how to use it.

Automated External Defibrilators (AEDs) are now becoming more common throughout a range of public and work places, including schools and community centres.

They are proven to save lives and are an invaluable addition to health and safety provision. Our course teaches essential basic life support skills, with vital instructions that an AED operator needs, giving students the confidence to know what to do in an emergency.

What should I know first?

This is an entry-level course and no previous qualifications are required.

What will I learn?

This very practical course will enable learners to use the AED competently and confidently. Not only does this course help learners gain confidence in the use of an AED, but it also includes essential training in basic life support, including resuscitation techniques.

Range of subjects covered include:

  • Responsibilities and reporting
  • Assessment of the situation
  • Dealing with an unresponsive casualty
  • Infection control
  • Resuscitation
  • AED functions
  • Defibrillation procedures
  • Safety measures

Course is suited to:

Learners aged 16 and over who are interested in furthering their emergency first aid skills.

Due to the practical nature of the first aid assessment there are physical demands and learners must be able to demonstrate their skills as in a real-life situation. An example of this would be to demonstrate CPR on a mannequin at floor level.

It is recommended that learners should hold a minimum of level 1 in literacy or equivalent to undertake this qualification.

It may be possible to allocate a reasonable adjustment to a learner who has a disability, medical condition or learning need. Please contact us direct to discuss your needs.

Length of course:

Course is conducted over four hours.

Qualification:

FAA Level 2 Award in Basic Life Support & Safe Use of an Automated External Defibrilator.

This qualification  is valid for 3 years. Delegates will need to retake the full course to renew this. However, it is recommended that during the 3-year period delegates attend annual refresher training, which we can provide.
